#DigitalEquityNow Heard at LA City Hall, LA County Board

On May 4th, 2023, the Digital Equity LA coalition came together in the Mayor Tom Bradley Room at LA City Call for a day of community, learning, skill building and advocacy at the first ever City and County of LA Digital Equity Advocacy Day.

Some highlights:

  • We were more than 80 people strong, from all across the City and the County. Our folks included advocates working in communities every day to advance equity and justice in health care, education, economic development, youth development, climate, and more, as well as parents and other community members.

  • We met with elected leaders and representatives from the offices of Mayor Karen Bass, City Attorney Hydee Fedelstein-Soto, City Controller Kenneth Mejia, and Council members Eunisses Hernández, President Paul Krekorian, Traci Park, Tim McCosker, Katy Yarovslavsky, and Nythia Raman. The coalition also met with representatives of all five LA County Board of Supervisors.

  • Partners who mobilized to show solidarity and power included: Alliance for a Better Community (ABC), Arts for LA, Boys & Girls Club of Carson, California Native Vote Project, Community Clinics Association of LA County, DTLA Chamber, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles (CHIRLA), Everyone On, Families In Schools (FIS), Healing & Justice Center, InnerCity Struggle (ICS), Institute for Local Self-Reliance, Pacoima Beautiful, Para Los Niños, Michelson 20MM Foundation, NextGen Policy, The Children's Partnership, Special Needs Network, United Parents and Students (UPAS), UNITE-LA, and YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles.

  • The resources we shared in training and with electeds are all in this folder - they’re yours to use and share!

  • Check out the incredible photos of partners taking part in advocating for reliable and affordable broadband! (And if you have photos or videos of your own, please share them with hello@digitalequityla.org - we’ll add them to the folder!)

Next steps: every meeting resulted in follow-up action requests, ranging from sharing more data to scheduling follow-up conversations to deepen the relationship between the elected leader and the coalition.

Keep the buzz going - amplify the coalition’s efforts! Just a few of the social media posts ready for sharing::

With gratitude and power and love for this extraordinary community of champions… Onward!
